Cactus Blooms at Catalina Spa and RV Resort

Please click on picture to enlarge

We were a little to early for blooms in the desert when we went to Joshua but  Spring is busting out all over here at CatSpa.

Don't know what these are called, but I love decorative grass.

I was hoping these would bloom before we left but unless they pop tomorrow I won't get to see them.  I do have a friend in the office here that could take a picture for me.  Guess I'll have to speak to her about that.

I've already posted a few pictures of this but it seems to be more beautiful each time I see it.

This huge Eucalyptus Tree is a couple sites over from ours.  I  love the smooth  feeling of the trunk.

I stepped outside this evening to turn our outdoor rope lights on and this is what I saw.  I wish it wasn't so grainy but the moon was so bright and Jupiter looked like it was right beside it. What a way to end a beautiful day.

I Hope This Is The End Of It!!

No pictures tonight.  But another chapter in the "don't swipe twice" story.  So today, I opened our banking on line, and low and behold there is TWO credits! $26 each. I called Ralph's and asked for the manager and explained to him that I had already been reimbursed for the two debits. Could he please take that credit off that he had just applied to my account. I was returning to Oregon and really didn't want to come back over there again. His reply.. oh, you can just make it right when you come back.  Um, I'm not coming back for at least six months, could I write a check to Ralph's and address the envelope atten: to him. He hesitated but OK.   I hung up the phone and Joe thought it was best just to go down there. So we did. We got the credit reversed and hopefully this is the end of it!

Today being St. Patrick's day, I put a corned beef roast in the slow cooker along with potatoes, carrots, onion, seasoning, and let it simmer all day. When Joe came home, we brought it inside as the flies were doing their best to have a taste too. Good thing I had a tight fitting lid on there.  The last hour I added the cabbage. It turned out wonderful!  Joe commented as far as he can remember he's never had corned beef and cabbage before.  I'm glad he liked it. It's even better the 2nd time around....yep, left overs tomorrow night.

Our Bucket Is Almost Empty...For this Season Anyway

In my last post I said we were going to take an up close look at the B-29 "FIFI".

I chose not to go up inside the plane because of the very steep ladder type steps. But the bomb bay doors were open and this is what I saw walking under the plane.

Joe did go up inside and one of the things that impressed him was all the instruments in that plane.

I asked him to stand by one of the propeller blades I guess you call them so you could see just how huge they are. It was just awesome to see that thing on take off slowly rise  in the air. I wondered if it was going to run out of runway before it lifted off.

This is one of Joe's favorite plane. The F104 Star Fighter. The wing blades are as sharp as a table knife.

This was last Sunday Joe could participate in the jam session here at Catalina Spa. He chose to play Somewhere My Love, Red Sails in the Sunset and Paper Roses. There was a good selection of instruments. Trombones, Saxophone, Spoons, Guitars, Bass Guitar, and Banjo. There was also a Cowboy Story Teller, who kept us in stitches, and a couple of "Remember When" that made us smile. All that is left in our bucket is the Men's Final Championship Tennis Match at the Indian Wells Tennis Gardens. Joe is really looking forward to that.
Before I end this blog I want to share with you what happened to me yesterday. So I go to Ralph's Pharmacy (Fred Meyer's for those back home) in Palm Springs to pick up my prescription. I slide my debit card. Six bucks. Do I want cash back $20. Message NOT AUTHORIZED. Clerk: Just swipe it again. Same message. I'm so frustrated, grab our back up card swipe it goes right through, get my cash and receipt and go. Later that evening, I check our banking account as I do every night to make sure there's no nonsense happening and what do I see? NONSENSE HAPPENING!!!!! Two $26 deductions PLUS the one on our other account that went through just fine. GRRRRRR To late to do anything about it. So this morning we were back there shortly after the doors open. I went prepared, with my paper work in order. A print out of my transactions in question, both debit cards, my receipt and FM card. I asked for the manager or assistant manager and right away was introduced to him. Told him my story, showed him my evidence and asked him how he was going to take care of this gross error. He smiled and said "I'm going to give you your money back." He apologized many times in the short time I was in there for the inconvenience and stress it caused me, had me fill out a short form and directed the customer service gal to finish up the transaction. She handed me $56. I said "No, $ 52 She said well for some reason I had it in my head it was $56 so keep it. No problem. I was back in the car no more than 15 minutes after I went in the store. I love shopping at Kroger Stores, no matter if it is Fred Meyers, Ralphs, Fry's whatever. And just in case I didn't make it clear, it wasn't the fault of the pharmacy clerk. She had never seen that error message before either. Did I learn a lesson from all of this? Yep, never, never, swipe your card more than once no matter who tells you to "just swipe it again"

Just Another Couple Of Fine Days In The Desert

I always enjoy this evening view at Catalina Spa.

A Morning of Pickleball

Saw these Beaver Tail Cactus the other morning on my walk.

Wednesday we spent part of the day in Palm Springs just window shopping and people watching. Blooming trees and flowers are everywhere around here.

We found a nice little cafe on a side street called Cafe Jasmine  We had a half sandwich and a cup of Chicken Noodle soup.  The noodles were more of a spatzle but oh, so good. We ate out on the patio beside this fountain.

It was sad to know the Palm Springs Follies have closed their doors.

We always enjoy seeing the star's names on the sidewalks

Even though it was a Wednesday, there were a lot of people downtown. I imagine with the BNP Paribas in full swing at the Indian Wells Tennis Gardens, and the season for us snow birds winding down, that might be a couple of reasons why so many people were there.

If we can, we try to park at a little parking lot near La Plaza as it is centrally located to places we like to see.

There are little shops, plenty of restaurants and even a wedding chapel here.

Even though it didn't rain on our parade, the clouds were certainly trying to make us believe was going to rain.

Today was laundry day. There is a larger  laundry room on the upper level in this park but I prefer the  little laundry room in the lower level where we are parked.

I especially like the art work on the walls.  It's very peaceful in there and only one time have I had to wait to get a machine and then not very long because the lady and I had a nice visit which made the time go faster.  Two washers, two dryers.  $1.25 each. I can dry three loads of laundry between the two dryers, because the $1.25 buys you 50 minutes and I never dry my clothes that long.

On the way back to the truck house after finishing the laundry I walked by these pretty flowers and thought I'd share them with you.

The next three pictures were taken from the Internet

Tomorrow morning we are headed to College of the Desert Street Fair for the last time this season to pick up some last minute items we want to take home with us.
Then on to  Palm Springs Air Museum for a couple of reasons.  First to say goodbye to our friend Chris, Who is such an awesome, professional artist, illustrator and story teller and good friend.

While we are there, we will be getting to see the  B29 FiFi .  This morning we saw it flying over our RV Park twice. It is going to be a great experience to see it up close and personal.
The rest time here will be taken up with watching Tennis at The Indian Wells Tennis Gardens (on TV of course) and me helping a couple of friends learn more about their laptops and Joe getting in a few more hours of pickleball and horseshoes in the sun. Enjoy your weekend. It's suppose to be in the 90's here.

Winding Up A Wonderful Time In The Desert For This Season

Our time in the desert is fast coming to a close for this season. We were happy to see  our entertainer friends, Freddie and Sheila Pelletier from Birch Hills, Saskatchewan perform at  Catalina Spa and again at Sky Valley RV Resort.

We have enjoyed snow covered mountain tops,

Warm spas and

swimming pool at Desert Pools RV Resort,
The company of new friends, watching movies, and learning new games. Thank you Lunetta and Delbert. Lunetta and I enjoyed working on some computer projects she had and Joe and Delbert enjoyed many hours of horseshoes. And I'm sure there will be a few more hours before we leave. They will be back here with us at CatSpa in a few days.

We took a ride through Joshua Tree National Park
We started at the South Entrance  near Cottonwood Spring off 1-10 this time  instead Highway 62  West entrance (29 Palms Highway) This time we were able to enjoy the visitor center. Always before they were closed by the time we got there. It makes me happy when I can get my National Park Passport stamped.
I enjoyed a short walk through the Botanical Gardens behind the visitor center. It is so nice to have the lifetime National Park pass so we don't have to pay entrance fees.

The Occotillo's were in bloom and beautiful

The Cholla's were just about ready to bloom. I'm thinking another week.

There were motor homes and tents camped everywhere. All the campgrounds were posted Full.

This startled me. But it is a really long root still attached to the tree.

This is always a stop for us.

And this time while we were here we did a little hiking

I love "seeing things or people" in the giant rocks. Like this one reminds me of a walrus.

Some of these makes me wonder how they have stayed there forever.
This is the famous Cap Rock

We took time out for a picnic lunch here

Another must stop for us is Keys View

Sunday we took a drive to Thousand Trails Wilderness Lakes RV Resort near Menifee, California. Joe was enjoying  the canal and the wildlife on the banks.

We were fortunate to  meet up with Our friends Roger and Nancy there. They were leaving the next morning.

After we left  Wilderness lakes, in the little berg of Winchester on highway 79, we found a great little burger place.Chris Burgers Joe said one of the best he's had in a long time. The restaurant was clean, service and food great. We for sure will visit this place next time we are in the area.

On the way home, we chose to take Highway 74 out of Helmet all the way back to Palm Springs. We ended our evening enjoying a Praise and Worship Service at Sky Valley RV Resort not very far from where we were.  It was a wonderful evening just full of all the gospel songs we new.  A couple sat down next to us, and after we introduced ourselves Joe discovered Bob and Marlene who live in Kaiser Oregon were retired  Evangelical pastors, pastoring Faith Church in Milwaukie years ago and knew many of Joe's relatives.  Small world isn't it. :)
